Apple’s Eco-Friendly FineWoven Faces Potential Discontinuation

Some news from the Apple world: it looks like FineWoven, Apple’s eco-friendly leather alternative, might be on its way out. According to a post by renowned leaker Kosutami, FineWoven could be discontinued after just seven months on the market.

Kosutami says, “FineWoven is gone,” alongside a snap of FineWoven Apple Watch straps. That’s a pretty short lifespan for these accessories, if it turns out to be true.

So, why the potential goodbye? Kosutami suggests it’s because “its durability [was] bad.” And from our own review, we can vouch for that. We found the case got easily scratched, got dirty quickly, and the design was prone to scratches and stains.

But hold up, there’s been no word from Apple about the fate of FineWoven. They weren’t available for comment either. And guess what? FineWoven cases and Apple Watch straps are still up for grabs on the Apple Store. A case for the iPhone 15 Pro will set you back $59, while a band for your Apple Watch could cost as much as $149.

According to Kosutami, production has stopped and Apple is looking at a new material—one that’s just as eco-friendly as FineWoven but more durable.

What will this new material be? Your guess is as good as ours. But one thing’s for sure: it needs to be tough enough to stand up to wear and tear, just like leather. And let’s be honest, not many folks will miss FineWoven if it does disappear from the Apple Store shelves.
