Apple Unveils New iPad Pro Lineup with OLED Displays

Big news from Apple’s virtual event, “Let Loose”! They just unveiled their latest iPad Pro updates, and they’re packing some serious upgrades. The new 13-inch and 11-inch models boast a sleek design, more powerful insides, and are thinner than ever. Plus, they come with a major display boost—OLED screens!

Yep, you heard that right. Apple has swapped out the old screens for OLED, bringing perfect blacks, richer colors, and better contrast to their flagship iPads. These iPads use a special tandem OLED setup, delivering 1,000 nits of brightness for regular use and 1,600 nits for HDR content—just like the Mini LED model before them.

The 13-inch model is super slim, measuring just 5.1 millimeters thick, making it Apple’s thinnest device ever. The 11-inch isn’t far behind at 5.3 millimeters. And for those who prefer a matte finish on their display, Apple is offering a nano-texture glass coating option for the first time.

New IPad Pro Pricing

Starting storage for both models is bumped up to 256GB, with prices starting at $999 for the 11-inch and £1,299 for the 13-inch. You can preorder them today, and they’ll hit stores on May 15th.

But here’s the kicker: if you max out the 13-inch model with 5G and the fancy nano-texture glass coating, you’re looking at a hefty $2,599—putting it in the same price range as top-tier laptops. Apple sees these iPads more than ever as laptop replacements, and they’re priced accordingly.

M4 Chip

Apple has skipped the M3 chip and gone straight to the latest and greatest—the M4 chip. According to Apple, this new chip is a whopping 50% faster than the previous M2 chip, and it’s super efficient too, delivering the same performance with just half the power. Plus, it’s got better thermal performance, improving by 20%.

But that’s not all! The rear camera has also had an upgrade, making document scanning even better with image stitching and an adaptive flash. And guess what? The Face ID camera has been moved to a landscape position, so no more awkward angles on video calls or FaceTimes.

And hold onto your hats, because the accessories are getting a revamp too! The Magic Keyboard now has a more premium finish with an aluminum palm rest and a function key row. And the Apple Pencil Pro? It now supports squeeze gestures and Find My location tracking, and it’s got a gyroscope for artists to roll their brush when drawing. Plus, it even has haptic feedback, just like Microsoft’s Surface Pen.

OLED Display

Now, let’s talk display. Apple’s decision to switch from LCD to OLED brings a bunch of benefits. You’ll get much greater contrast, perfect black levels, and greater immersion when watching videos. And no more blooming issues for creative pros/artists—OLED provides per-pixel brightness precision.

But here’s the real game-changer: both sizes of the iPad Pro will now offer the same top-notch display quality. Previously, the larger model had a Mini LED display that outperformed the smaller one, but not anymore. Now, whether you go for the big or small iPad Pro, you’ll get a similar stellar experience.
