EU Pressure Pushes Microsoft to Unbundle Teams from Office 365

Big news from across the pond—Microsoft is shaking things up with its popular Microsoft 365 and Office 365 subscription services.

So, here’s the deal: Microsoft is planning to release a new version of these services, but with a twist. They’re going to offer a version that doesn’t include Teams, their collaboration platform. This move comes after some pushback from European Union regulators and complaints from rivals like Slack.

Why the fuss? Well, Microsoft has been accused of having an unfair advantage by bundling Teams with its Office 365 suite. Basically, many businesses have argued that Microsoft was kind of forcing them to use Teams when all they wanted was Office 365. Slack, which is owned by Salesforce, even called Microsoft out, saying the move was “illegal”.

But Microsoft is taking steps to address these concerns. They’ve already started selling Office 365 without Teams in the EU and Switzerland, and now they’re planning to do the same elsewhere.

In a statement to Reuters, Microsoft explained that this change will give multinational companies more flexibility when it comes to buying their software.

According to Reuters, we can expect to see these new Office 365 options on Monday. But as of now, Microsoft hasn’t actually made the switch just yet.

Stay tuned for updates!
